Social nertworks and other internet economies
Thee research in a number of academic fields have demonstrated that social networks operate on many levels, from families up to the level of nations. when it comes to social network people have the wrong impression about it. Theirs nothing wrong with a little help from social networking because people use it for difference reasons such as finding old friends, classmates back in the days, relatives thats been gone from family for years. Its not only that we can use it for jobs, communication between people long distance. ITs ok if you want to talk through facebook, yahoo, tagged, as well as others through a social network .

While this is a great start, you may want to consider adding links to support your statements regarding academic research. The opening statement may cause the audience to expect to see an article or example linking academic research data with social networks. The examples of how social networks are used was a great addition. Please expand upon why people have the wrong impression of social networking.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think about people organizing protests and demonstrations using sites such as facebook or tweeter (ex. Egypt, Cairo)? Do you think it is good that people have so much freedom when it comes to using the enternet?
ReplyDeleteI think that very often people missuse social networking sites to harrass or sent bad messages. But it is also true that people who do not abuse online social networking sites, benefit from social networking.
I guess if social networking site are used for postive reinforcment than thier should not be a problem. Did you know that some employers look at the site to check candiates out before they hire them.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm sure that there are some benefits to social networking, for instance; job searching, locating and keeping in contact with persons from our past and keeping abreast with the latest going on with the so-called celebrities in our mist. On the other hand, do you really know, to whom you're speaking? Let's use this example: you find the perfect position for the job of your dreams, the companies' rep tells you "that you have to relocate to, Milan TN, and that they will pay for all of your accommodation and related expenses, until you can find an apartment". Would you uproot the family, leave your current job and life, on the word of someone you've met ONLY on the internet?
ReplyDeleteIf you answered YES, maybe you're too trusting.
Perhaps we should be checking perspective employers out, the way they're checking you out.
People, there are some untrustworthy folks, out there. I'd rather look someone in the eye when we talk, its' harder to lie; face to face.
I believe that if social networks are used appropriately they can be very rewarding. Yes, social network’s can be useful when locating old friends, promoting your business, or keeping up with gossip, it’s the people who abuse these sites that give them a bad rep. For example I read an article about some nurses who were using face book to change shifts. Although they did not post patient names they did post specific information so the other nurse would be prepared for the shift. The problem was that everyone could see what they had posted and could easily put two and two together. This was a great issue because it was a HIPAA violation, which is an act that protects patient’s privacy.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fact that these socil networking sites can be used for some good. However, I have a problem when ppl use them for the wrong reasons and then get mad when places like schools block them from use on public computers. I hate it when I'm in class, working hard and I see ppl sitting on facebook, not paying attention. These are the same ppl who are always asking the teacher a question because they weren't paying attention. I also think that ppl misuse Facebook when they have a personal problem with someone else. I've had to block ppl from being able to see my page. I've also been to other friends' pages and saw them being harrassed by someone. Ppl get things started over Facebook sometimes, and never have to pay the consequence for it. They do what my Granny and Mom call "writing a check your ass can't cash."
ReplyDeleteAs everyone else, I too agree that social networking is a great way to keep in touch with old friends who have moved to other states or out of the country, former employees and colleagues, etc. But keep in mind that facebook, tweeter and the other sites are not your diary. It is OK if you want to let some friends know whats going on in your life and what not, but keep it PG and professional. When you are applying for jobs and you are giving them the same e-mail address you use for facebook or Myspace, you are giving them accesses to view your account and see your status updates, photos, etc. Therefore, that can highly cause you that job you're applying to.
ReplyDeleteCome on, socialnetworking, you guys love to blog, facebook, email, IM and non-face-toface communication; where is the next entry?? Well, this only confirms my opinions about social networking as a waste of time. I have been reluctant to join these discussions and resentful that I HAVE to for this classes' assignments. And since this assignment calls for me to state an opinion about different blogs, I shall keep the one I've had, and so, as far as the advantages of social networking; what comes to mind is:"out-of-sight, out-of-mind". How is one to comment on the advantages or disadvantages of social networking, when there is no NEW information? I could have been shovelling snow or trimming my toenails, instead of wasting time and energy on talking to nobody in particular about NOTHING in particularly. Hopefully, this BLOG, will pick up the pace; and soon....
ReplyDeleteAs you guys commented over and over again, social network is a very good for finding long lost friends and family. I'm really over it all. My facebook page was hacked recently, and who ever did it had bad intentions. I never displayed too much of my personal business, but it gives people who don't really like you the opportunity to do things out of spite. I do miss talking to friends from the past. Now I just continue on as I did before the social networks existed. Life goes on with or without social networking!
ReplyDeleteI think social networks are intended for positive ways to communicate with one another and talk and learn about different topics. Social networks are now used differently. I mean people use facebook and other networks to meet people and sometimes abuse it. I was sent a virus to by inbox and it said something about " you have to look at this video of you" so i was like OK since a person i knew sent it to me. Then when i checked it out my computer shut down. I got it fixed but i am bothered that people would do things like that. Face book to me is boring and over rated. If i have to communicate with friends of family i do it by phone or in person i don't have time to be on the computer all day.
ReplyDeleteSocial networking is exactly that, or social nets. These mediums are great for a fast way of getting out information. Mostly, these particular mediums are becoming tools for companies to advertise and collect info about their prospective customer base. Believe me companies have quite a few savvy ways of gathering info and building user profiles. Now, that’s a concern to worry about when using social networks. Are our privacies protected?
ReplyDeleteI do not think that there is something wrong with social networking,I too use facebook and yahoo to network with old friends or people who I know that live far away from me. I think that net working is important because these days that is how you find jobs.
ReplyDeleteThe negative side to social network however, is that I believe when we do too much of it people forget how it is like to communicate in a professional matter. We are so use to using computers to communicate that we are somewhat forgetting on how to talk in the appropriate manner when the time calls for it.
